This is what Mamma Lena has been to many thousands of Italians in
their time of need.
And on the occasion of her 80th birthday, more than 200 of her
friends, supporters, admirers and distinguished guests, including
Federal Opposition Leader Alexander Downer and Federal Member |
Browyn Bishop, were with
her at Club Marconi in Bosseley Park and at Apia Club in Leichardt.
Mamma Lena's dedicated work has been acknowledged not only by the
Italo-Australian community, but also
by the Italian and Australian media.
Prime Minister Paul Keating, Premier of NSW John Fahey and |
Minister for
Multicultural and Ethnic Affairs Michael Photios offered their
congratulations as well.
Mamma Lena started to work for Italian migrants as a journalist and
radio announcer in 1956, on the ethnic programs of various radio
stations throughout Sydney, in a career which spanned 29 years. |
