Many came to mark Mamma Lena's 80th
A COMFORT, a friend, and a supporter. This is what Mamma Lena has been to many thousands of Italians in their time of need.
And on the occasion of her 80th birthday, more than 200 of her friends, supporters, admirers and distinguished guests, including Federal Opposition Leader Alexander Downer and Federal Member
Browyn Bishop, were with her at Club Marconi in Bosseley Park and at Apia Club in Leichardt.
Mamma Lena's dedicated work has been acknowledged not only by the Italo-Australian community, but also
by the Italian and Australian media.
Prime Minister Paul Keating, Premier of NSW John Fahey and
Minister for Multicultural and Ethnic Affairs Michael Photios offered their congratulations as well.
Mamma Lena started to work for Italian migrants as a journalist and radio announcer in 1956, on the ethnic programs of various radio stations throughout Sydney, in a career which spanned 29 years.
