"BRAVO STUARTI!" Orchestra
Conducted by Gianni Marchetti - Recorded in Rome
Such was the spontaneous roar of acclaim that filled a Rome recording
studio — Europe's largest and most modern — upon the completion of this
thrilling Epic debut album of tenor Enzo Stuarti. Assembled in the vast
studio to accompany Mr. Stuarti were sixty of Rome's finest musicians.
When this astonishingly wide-ranging programme embracing current Italian
"pop" tunes such as Se piangi, se ridi, beloved Italian opera arias from
"La Boheme" and "Aida" and world-famous Italian songs was reccorded,
these discerning men, dedicated to musical perfection as only
music-loving Italians can be, were expressing their wild enthusiasm for
one of the world's greatest tenor voices. Many declared that he was
natural heir to the thrones of Enrico Caruso and Mario Lanza.
Part of the excitement derived from the fact that the musicians were
welcoming back a "favourite son". For although Stuarti was born in Rome
(his impeccable Roman pronunciation delighted them nearly as much as his
singing), he had become a citizen of the United States, where he first
gained fame on Broadway ,singing in Rodgers and Hammerstein's "Me and
Juliet" and Harold Rome's "Fanny", with a temporary return to Rome for
further vocal study at the celebrated conservatory, the Accademia
Nazionale di Santa Cecilia. Since then, his magnificent tenor voice has
thrilled audiences in virtually every entertainment medium: on the Ed
Sullivan, Danny Kaye and Perry Como television shows, on records and in
elegant supper clubs such as the Plaza Hotel's Persian Room and the
Copacabana in Manhattan and the Deauville, Eden Roc and Fountainbleau
hotels in Miami Beach.
In travelling to Rome this time, Stuarti was doing more than visiting
the city of his birth. He was returning for the express purpose of
saluting his native country's adoration of life, love and song. When you
hear Enzo Stuarti's spine-tingling voice in this album it is certain
that you will echo the perceptive musicians' spontaneous ovation: "BRAVO
STUARTI!" |
