Don Costa was born in
Boston, U.S.A., and in the early days of his musical career worked with
Vaughn Monroe for some time, before moving to New York as a free-lance
arranger. Once there, he worked with Vic Damone, Georgia Gibbs, the Ames
Brothers, Billy Eckstine and others. Between 1955 and 1961 he was
employed as director of artists and repertoire for several major record
companies and is credited with discovering and furthering the careers of
artists of the calibre of Paul Anka, Ferrante and Teicher, Steve
Lawrence and Edie Gorme and Trini Lopez.
In 1961 Don Costa formed his own production company and since that time
has arranged and produced many major artists for a variety of record
labels. With his signing of a contract with Mercury Records, he has
returned to recording in his own right and we feel that this particular
album will establish Don Costa as one of the foremost arrangers of
popular music.
