Probably the greatest
selling 'Latin-American' album in the history of the record business is the Trio Los Panchos 'LATIN AMERICAN BEST SELLERS'. Undoubtedly the world's most popular Latin American vocal group, the Trio Los Panchos, have in this album a more than worthy follow-up. The material is just as well known and loved and the musical treatment is, if anything, even better. For a while recently Latin America, and Mexico in particular, was in a state of active dismay about rumours that the Trio Los Panchos had been disbanded. Luckily, like the celebrated report concerning Mark Twain, this report was wildly exaggerated, and the trio is not only still purveying its melodious songs, but has just returned from a triumphal tour of Japan. What has happened to the Trio Los Panchos is that Johnny Albino of Puerto Rico has replaced Hernando Aviles, whose illness forced his retirement. Senor Albino has filled in for Senor Aviles on several occasions in the past and was already familiar with the workings of the trio, so that` the change-over was made smoothly and easily. The other members, the immensely popular Alfredo Gil and Churcho Navarro, remain the same and their songs are as delightful and romantic as ever. Before leaving for their tour of Japan, the Trio Los Panchos gave a gala recital in Mexico which in the words of a local newspaper "was overwhelming — they sang their most popular songs and the audience was insatiable they wanted more and more". |
